A TYNE Valley school has taken delivery of 10 high-tec laptops thanks to a donation from the local county councillor.

Pupils at Adderlane Academy in Prudhoe purchased 10 Chrome Book laptops with money made available by Coun. Gordon Stewart's small schemes fund.

Coun. Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South on Northumberland County Council, said he was delighted to support the school and praised the its impact in the community.

He said: "I am delighted to be able to provide support in such a way, particularly at this unprecedented time making online support even more important.

'This is a fantastic school which is a huge part of the Prudhoe community."

The school's headteacher, Emma Potts, explained how the computers will be used.

It is hoped they will improve the school's remote learning offering - something that has become vitally important during the coronavirus pandemic for children who have to self isolate.

Mrs Potts said: "This donation is a real life line at the moment. Schools have been turned upside down this year.

"We have had to ensure we have a strong remote learning offering to children who are self isolating at home.

"Currently we are using paper work packs and a platform called Class Dojo. We will now be able to add Google classroom to our toolkit.

"Using the chromebooks in school will ensure the children are confident with Google Classroom so that it can be used at home allowing us to reach out to our children virtually.

"Having these chromebooks in school will also ensure access to other platforms is quick and easy.

"We are very grateful to Coun. Stewart for this donation."
