SHOPPERS at the Co-op have raised thousands of pounds for a local charity after digging deep into their pockets.
The Friends of Eastwoods Park, who own and operate the Miners Lamp Cafe and Community Hub in Prudhoe, received a huge cash boost raised by members of the Co-op.
A cheque for £7,877.50 was handed over to project manager Russ Greig on November 22.
The funds will be used to provide valuable, fully accessible facilities in the Miners Lamp.
Russ said: "It's brilliant news, we were delighted.
"We’d like to say a really big thank you to everyone who has supported us through the Coop.
That money is going to be put towards installing a fully accessible toilet facilities.
"We're hoping to be the first Changing Places toilet in all of Prudhoe.
"It's not just a toilet - it has a hoist and other facilities so it can be used by everyone.
"It will make the entire park more accessible to all."
The money was donated by the Co-op local community fund, which supports projects across the UK Co-op members care about.
Each time members buy selected Co-op branded products, a percentage of the money goes to local causes.
All money raised from shopping bag sales also goes into the pot.
