Mountain rescue volunteers were called into action last week to aid an injured soldier and walker.

The Northumberland National Park response team were preparing to visit Featherwood, on Otterburn Ranges, on Tuesday to provide extra support to an injured soldier. However, the army and North East Ambulance Service Community Response team were able to handle the situation.

The incident involved six volunteers and lasted 20 minutes.

On Friday afternoon, the North East Ambulance Service requested mountain rescue’s assistance at Steel Rigg, on Hadrian’s Wall, to aid an injured walker near the Steel Rigg car park.

Northumberland and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team’s response vehicles were deployed from Pegswood, Rothbury and West Denton, however the ambulance service confirmed that members of the public were able to assist the on-scene crew.

The walker was assisted back to the car park by members of the public and the two volunteer crews were stood down.

Volunteers were also called out to a female walker and her partner who found themselves in difficulty on the Border Ridge, but they were later stood down after the couple relocated.
