The Northumberland coronavirus infection rate has increased by nearly 100 in the past month.

Data from Public Health England shows there was a rate of 280.7 positive cases per 100,000 population in the last seven days, an increase from 186.09 on October 19.

In a week where a further 899 people tested positive for Covid-19, the Hexham East ward emerged as an area with the fifth highest number of cases in the county.

Figures from Northumberland County Council show 26 people have tested positive for the virus in the ward in the last seven days.

Prudhoe North and Ponteland North both recorded 17 cases, while Ponteland South with Heddon recorded 14.

NHS England confirmed there were 18 further coronavirus-related deaths in Northumbria Healthcare Trust hospitals between November 10 and November 16. The total number of deaths stands at 307.

Public Health England figures show 7,202 people have tested positive for coronavirus since March.

It comes as latest data, published on November 16, showed almost every part of the North East had seen a rise in Covid cases in the past week.
