Almost a tonne of supplies has been donated to a local food bank by one of the district’s high schools.
A spokeswoman for Ponteland High School said: “We may have a new building, but the generosity of pupils, parents and staff remains the same.
Together, they answered the call for help from the Newcastle West End Food Bank and sent almost 1,000kg of food and other goods to the food bank on Monday.
Volunteers praised both the scale and efficiency of the collection – delivered in a time of need as the cold weather begins to bite, coupled with the challenges of another lockdown making operations for the charity even more difficult.
It’s the third time the school’s stakeholders have come together to help the West End food bank to support people in need.
The previous delivery was sent off just before the first national lockdown in March.
