COUNCILLORS and residents have expressed their disappointment and sadness at the closure of Hexham's Argos store.
Coun. Derek Kennedy, who serves on both Hexham Town Council and Northumberland County Council, representing Hexham West, said he was devastated for members of staff who have lost their jobs.
He added: "As a kid, I loved Argos. The whole concept of looking in a catalogue, writing the number down and waiting for the product to come, so fascinating. It was the internet of its day.
Resident Danielle Lawson said the store would have been a huge asset to the town ahead of Christmas.
She added: "One shop that we could do with being open. Ridiculous."
Kelly Richardson said: "Hexham really needs Argos, it's a long way to get to the nearest Argos store, and a lot of stuff is not available for home delivery."
