A TYNE Valley sandwich shop has caught the attention of footballer Marcus Rashford after it pledged to give free packed lunches to children who need it during half term.

Top Nosh, based on Haugh Lane in Hexham, decided to step in and help struggling families after the Government voted against proposals to extend free school meals over the half-term holidays, backed by Manchester United star Rashford.

Hexham Courant:

A Facebook post by Top Nosh was shared on Twitter by the England footballer.

It read: "The Government have unfortunately voted against providing free school meals for children who desperately need them during school holidays.
