THREE more deaths from coronavirus have been recorded at Northumbria Healthcare hospitals, it has been confirmed.

The latest figures from NHS England showed that the total death toll from the virus at the trust's hospitals now stands at 244, with three deaths recorded in the last two days.

The most recent data from Public Health England showed that 78 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Northumberland yesterday.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in the county now stands at 4,535 - up from 4,457 the previous day.

Northumberland County Council's figures showed that there have been 511 cases confirmed across the county in the last seven days - a rate of 159.6 cases per 100,000 residents.

The council ward Ponteland South with Heddon has seen the highest number of cases confirmed in the last seven days of any ward in the Hexham Constituency, with 11 cases confirmed.

Ponteland North follows with nine cases confirmed, while Prudhoe South has had seen seven new cases.

Nationally, there were 21,242 cases of COVID-19 confirmed yesterday, bringing the total number of lab-confirmed cases across the UK to 810,467. 120,580 cases have been confirmed in the last seven days, with 99,354 of those in England.

A further 189 people died on Thursday after testing positive for the virus. The total death number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test is now 44,347, while 58,164 people had COVID-19 as a cause of death on their death certificate, up to October 9.
