AN event inspired by the talents of local people is set to take place at a major venue in the Tyne Valley.

For the second consecutive year, Hexham Abbey will host the Festival of Flame, which is set to take place on Friday, November 6.

Hosted by Hexham Community Partnership, with funding from Hexham Town Council, it will feature music, poetry, art, and will also pay tribute to the district’s war heroes, taking place just two days before Remembrance Sunday.

Jez Light, operations manager of the partnership said the event would included performances from musicians Sam Shields and Lauren Simms.

He added: “I asked Sam and Lauren to perform at this year’s event after being blown away by their sets at the Abbey’s Under the Sun event in August.

“They are both Northumbrian solo singer-songwriters and will be performing from a stage at the top of the night stairs, singing songs specially selected to fit in with the ethos of the event and the special atmosphere of the Abbey.”

This year’s event is titled Festival of Flame: an elegy, following the success of 2019s Festival of Flame: ignite.

The festival will include a trail of fire, music, poetry, art and remembrance, the Abbey by candlelight, including a new Triquetra by Tealight installation - using 1000 soy wax candles.
