A COMMUNITY organisation is encouraging residents in the Tyne Valley to join them in the fight against polio.
Hexham Rotary Club has been doing its bit to combat the life-threatening disease.
On Saturday, members of the club will be selling 40 crocus bulbs in aid of Purple4Polio, and are urging people to make a charitable purchase.
Member Rob Hart said: "When a child receives the life-saving polio drops on mass polo immunisation days their little finger is painted with a purple dye, so it is clear they have received their polio vaccine. Rotary’s pledge for a polio free world was made in 1985 when there were 125 polio endemic countries and hundreds of new cases every single day."
