PRUDHOE Town Council have selected their priorities for the upcoming year's local transport plan.

The annual plan sees money invested in a raft of repair, restoration and maintenance projects benefitting pedestrians, cyclists and drivers in all parts of the county.

Local councils are asked to provide three priorities each year to the council, who will attempt to complete as many of the jobs as is feasible.

At Prudhoe Town Council’s September meeting, councillors agreed its priorities for the 2020/21 local transport plan.

Councillors agreed to ask for a 20mph limit to be installed on Castlefields Drive, and for the troublesome chicanes to be removed.

Castlefields Drive was also included on the town's priories for last year's plan, and the year before that.

In addition, councillors have asked for double yellow lines on the road near Eastwoods Road, to stop vehicles parking on the left hand side of the road on the stretch that runs past Eastwoods Park.

Reported incidents of vehicles parked there has effectively created a single carriageway, blocking access and causing road safety concerns as children exit cars directly onto the road.

Coun. Jennifer McGee said: "This has been an issue for years and years and the situation is getting worse.

"You have parking on both sides of the road. The park is reallywell used now but that's exacerbated the problem.

"Two residents have told me recently that cars have been parked on the area and children have been in cars and got out and ran straight out across the road and just been missed.

"It's just a matter of time before a child is hurt on that road."

Councillors also agreed to support Coun. Christine Cuthbert's request to support residents asking for parking at Burnside in Mickley.
