RESIDENTS of a Prudhoe estate are concerned their streets will become a rat run for cars attempting to access the new Low Prudhoe development.

Paul Jones and Dave Smith attended Prudhoe Town Council’s meeting on Wednesday, September 30 to discuss the concerns of people living on Castlefields estate.

Around 35 residents are concerned that traffic will use the estate to get to the new development at Low Prudhoe, which will include an Aldi, B&M, and McDonalds.

Mr Smith said: “We’re very concerned about traffic. We have no issues with the retail park, we’re just concerned that nothing was really done at the time of planning.

“Nothing came up about the issues caused by traffic that will inevitably use the estate to get to the retail park.

“The estate is used by people as a cut through by people wanting to get to the A695, Low Prudhoe Industrial Estate, and the rubbish tip.

“It’s the quickest way for a lot of people.

“We are a family estate, and to have all that extra traffic coming through can’t be a good thing.”

The residents are calling for a 20mph limit to be introduced on the estate’s roads, and for the removal of traffic calming chicanes on corners. Councillors agreed with the proposals, and the changes were added to the council’s local transport plan priorities.
