A new film featuring Millie Bobby Brown was filmed in Sussex.

Enola Holmes is Netflix's colourful detective film about the eponymous sister of top sleuth Sherlock.

Based on the first book in Nancy Springer's The Enola Holmes Mysteries series, the movie sees Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown take on the eponymous role as Sherlock's teenage sister.

Set in Victorian England, Enola heads to London in search of her mother.

The film showcases some of Britain's most beautiful stately homes and country estates.

Whilst Benthall provided the exterior for the Holmes' house, West Horsley Place, which is on the Sussex border, was the setting for the scenes filmed inside.

West Horsley Place is a 15th century, 50-bedroom house.

It has hosted both Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I.

Production designer Michael Carlin said: “We inhabited the house for weeks creating Eudoria’s bedroom, the library, the kitchen and the wonderful unkempt orchard at the back.

“The house is gorgeous but completely overgrown and covered by plant life with real plants and Eudoria’s paintings everywhere.”

When watching West Horsley Place’s appearance in the film, expect to see Chesterfield leather sofas, Persian rugs galore, regal gallery walls, and damask wallpaper in a subdued shade of red.

The entire house is filled with charming antiques, and it manages to achieve the right balance of rich design and a livable feel.

The house was the location for much of the filming of the 2015 ITV television film Harry Price: Ghost Hunter and the 2019 sitcom Ghosts.

The first movie has already been a popular hit on Netflix and sets itself up perfectly for a sequel, and if lead star and producer Millie Bobby Brown had her way, a sequel will definitely happen.

"There's more of the story to be told. The story isn't over yet. She isn't grown up, there's no conclusion. I think she'll forever be someone who is always evolving, but there's definitely more to be shown on screen," she told Deadline.
