AN investigation has been launched after a burglary in a Tyne Valley town.

Just after 4.15am on Monday, police received a report of a burglary at an address on West Road, in Prudhoe.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “It was reported that the occupant had found an intruder inside his home - with the offender then making off on foot after being disturbed.”

The National Police Air Service (NPAS) assisted throughout the night as part of ongoing searches.

A mere 15 minutes before, a second burglary-related incident took place in the town.

At 4am on Monday, officers received a report of an attempted burglary on Highfield Lane.

On Wednesday, a Northumbria police spokesman confirmed that no arrests had been made on either case and that inquiries remained ongoing.

He said: “An investigation is in its early stages, but at present, we are treating both incidents as linked.”

Now, councillor Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South on Northumberland County Council, has moved to reassure residents after concerns from the local community.

He said: "I was concerned to learn of the burglaries in Prudhoe, I am in regular contact with the police.

"Prudhoe does have low levels of crime and such incidents, obviously, cause great concern for residents.

"I would urge anyone who has any information regarding these, or any crime, to contact the police or Crimestoppers.

"CCTV, including dashcam or door bell footage, may assist the police to detect these crimes, and help prevent further incidents and I ask that these be checked." Anyone with information is asked to contact the force quoting log 106 051020.
