A MAN has been given a suspended jail sentence for carrying a kitchen knife in public.
Xavier Anceau (46), of Windsor Terrace, Corbridge, was sentenced to 12 weeks in custody, suspended for 12 months, for carrying the bladed article on the village's St Wilfred's Road on August 22 of this year.
Anceau had admitted the charge at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court last Thursday.
As terms of his suspended sentence, he must comply with a 12-month supervision order and carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128 and court costs of £85, and an order for the forfeiture and destruction of the knife was made.
