A VOLUNTEER group has benefitted from a substantial donation from its local county councillor.

The Friends of Prudhoe Woods was given a grant from Coun. Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South, from his small grants scheme.

Coun. Stewart said: "The great work carried out by the volunteers makes a huge positive difference for residents and visitors to the area.

"We have some wonderful wooded areas and the team make sure they are well maintained, I am delighted to support them by funding specialist equipment.

"The group's hard work make our town a better place and it's another reason to be proud of Prudhoe."

The money was used by the group to purchase a new log splitter.

The machine makes short work of firewood splitting, making the lives of volunteers far easier.

The Friends of Prudhoe Woods are currently short on volunteers and are looking for new people to help out.

Anyone interested in joining their work can do so via the group's Facebook page.
