THE SOUND of music has returned for musicians out of work due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

North-East artists struggling to find work have organised an outdoor tour for people most vulnerable to Covid and living far away from concert halls.

Kirkwhelpington, Elsdon, Ridsdale, West Woodburn, Stamfordham, Wall and Langley are among the villages they are visiting this weekend and next weekend.

At a time when culture is needed more than ever, award-winning concert pianist, Annie Ball, and internationally acclaimed cellist, Katie Tertell, designed a safe alternative to driving into local towns and cities for indoor performances.

Audience members are asked to bring their own seating, while stewards, signage and markings on the ground will ensure a minimum of two metres social distancing with the audiences are limited to 30 people.

Annie said the pair have enjoyed sell out performances in July and the duo have received support from the Ray Wind Fund.

"We believe in the power of music and that outside is safest," Annie said.

Annie, who grew up near West Woodburn, said she knows how important it is for locals to access world class music and now the need is even greater because of Covid.

The musicians said they are in regular contact with Northumberland County Council, and are keeping up to date with the latest social distancing safety measures and Covid restrictions.
