A MAN has died after a car crash in the county.

Police have launched an appeal for information following the fatal collision in North Seaton, in Ashington, on Friday.

Shortly after 2am, police received a report that a vehicle had crashed at the North Seaton roundabout.

Emergency services attended the scene where, sadly, a man was found deceased inside a black Saab.

The man's family has been notified and are currently receiving support from specialist officers as they attempt to come to terms with the devastating news.

The A189 north-bound, leading towards the roundabout, was closed for more than eight hours to allow crash scene investigators to assess the area and a clear-up operation to take place.

Now, an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the collision and police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Sergeant Raymond Lowery, of Northumbria Police's motor patrols department, said: "This is a devastating incident that has sadly resulted in the death of a man.

"We are continuing to support his family at this difficult time and they have asked that their privacy is respected.

"Our inquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this collision and we are now asking anybody who was in the area at the time who saw anything that can assist us to get in touch.

"Please check your dashcam footage and let us know if you saw a black Saab travelling in the direction of the North Seaton roundabout."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the 'Tell Us Something' page of their website or by calling 101 quoting log 72 180920.
