IT must have been an old photo you printed last week in the farming section of the Courant, as it showed our MP with a huge poster supporting our farmers.

We all know he voted with the Government to do away with protections for farming standards in any trade deal we might get with the United States.

Now it seems more standards are slipping as we are about to legislate to renege on not only “specific and limited” aspects of the Withdrawal Agreement Mr Johnston signed last year.

The new bill includes, as “relevant international or domestic law” that may be altered whenever he chooses, “any other legislation, convention, or rule of international or domestic law whatsoever, including any order, judgement or decision of the European Court or of any other court or tribunal”.

It will be interesting to read in your paper how Mr Opperman justifies his voting for this wholesale pledge of lawlessness by the British government.

We were once regarded as a country that could absolutely be trusted. Brexit is coming with a very high cost indeed.
