A REMEMBRANCE Day service looks set to go ahead in Hexham this November in accordance with Covid-19 regulations.
Hexham Town Council hosts the annual parade and service, which is always an emotive occasion for residents as they remember the fallen from the two world wars, as well as more recent conflicts.
Now the Mayor of Hexham has outlined the council’s plans for this year’s event.
Chairing last Monday’s town council meeting, Coun. Bob Hull said: “In principle we are ready to hold a remembrance day ceremony but we are awaiting further guidance regarding Covid-safety.”
The town council has played a leading role since taking over the organisation of the event from the now disbanded Hexham Branch of the Royal British Legion.
Remembrance Sunday is quite a spectacle in Hexham, with a parade leading from Priestpopple, along Fore Street, and onto theWar Memorial on the Sele, after coming to a halt in the Market Place.
Last year, ex-service personnel were joined by the 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, a regiment of the British Army, based at Albemarle Barracks, and members of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, Northumbria Army Cadet Force, Hexham Detachment as well as 224 Hexham Squadron Air Training Corps.
