A MAN has been arrested in Haltwhistle on suspicion of murder.

The 32-year-old was detained in the area in the early hours of Thursday morning following an extensive police search, involving police helicopters.

He will now be questioned by the West Midlands Police homicide team in connection with the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old Thomas Rogers on the side of a busy Birmingham road.

Thomas was discovered at around 4.55pm on Saturday, August 22, before being rushed to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead not long after his arrival.

A post mortem revealed he died as a result of a stab wound to the chest.

Detectives have charged his brother Samuel Rogers, aged 30, of Sutton-In-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, and Ryan Hurt (22), of Mansfield, with murder. They were remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

A 40-year-old has been released with no further action, while a woman, aged 28, and a 15-year-old girl, who were previously detained, have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Two women and a man - aged between 24 and 31 - were also arrested in the South Shields and Jarrow areas of the North-East on suspicion of assisting an offender, but have now been released under investigation.

Inquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information can call police on 101 or via Livechat on their website, quoting log 3122 of 22 August.
