STAFF at a Tyne Valley branch of NFU Mutual have nominated a local charity to receive over £3,000 in funding.

Tynedale Hospice at Home will receive the cash from the rural insurance specialists’ national Agency Giving Fund.

It is part of a £1m scheme to support front line charities during the national crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Staff at NFU Mutual’s Hexham office recognised the work of the hospice, which supports people with life limiting illnesses.

The donation will help the hospice to continue its essential work – providing care to vulnerable people at home, offering vital transport to hospital appointments, and bereavement support for children, adults, and families. Catherine Bowman, of NFU Mutual in Hexham, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on everybody, including our customers and their local communities. Tynedale Hospice is making a wonderful difference, and we are proud to have been able to nominate this local charity to benefit from NFU Mutual’s national fund.”

Mike Thornicroft, chief executive of Tynedale Hospice, said: “This is wonderful news for our charity, especially as we are committed to keeping all of our services running to support local people and families in need. We are also in close contact with our community nursing colleagues to ensure that we support them to deliver care in the best way we can during this difficult time.”
