A FAMOUS radio presenter who grew up in a remote part of Tynedale has joined BBC Radio One.

Vick Hope moved to Minsteracres with her family when she was young, and from there she has gone on to create a big name for herself.

She rose to stardom by starring alongside Roman Kemp on Captial FM's Breakfast Show, and her stock rose when she participated in Strictly Come Dancing in 2018.

It was announced on Thursday that she will act as the new co-host of Radio 1’s Life Hacks on Sundays between 4pm and 6pm, and The Official Chart: First Look on Radio 1 on Sundays between 6pm and 7pm.

Starting on September 6, she will join current co-host Katie Thistleton on Life Hacks, a weekly show dedicated to open and frank discussion about issues affecting young people, and The Official Chart: First Look, a Sunday evening show providing the earliest possible glance at the Official Singles Chart for the following week.

Vick said: "Joining the BBC Radio 1 family is an absolute dream come true. I grew up listening to Radio 1 religiously, and am honoured to present Life Hacks, a show that is so important to me and so many listeners.

"Right back since the days of The Surgery, I have loved listening to this weekly platform which so openly, honestly and thoroughly discusses issues affecting young people: from mental health and grief to education and careers, sex and relationships to racism.

"Above all, Life Hacks is a community, a space where, whatever is going on in your life, you can know you’re not alone. I am excited to be a part of continuing to build this community of support and advice and look forward to turning my hand to hosting The Official Chart: First Look too."
