Today's article (Courant, July 30) about the closure of Riversdale Surgery in Wylam was inaccurate.
Lack of public transport means patients in Horsley have always had to find their own way to either Wylam (2.5 miles) or Prudhoe (3 miles).
You have pointed out that there are four buses daily from Wylam to Prudhoe.
This has always made access tricky for patients in the Heddon area.
As to your comment that 3,000 patients will have to travel to Prudhoe, the population of Wylam district is around 1,963.
Riversdale is not its only medical practice, and there are surgeries in Throckley and Corbridge.
It was always likely that the property would be sold when its GP owner retired. and the current pandemic may mean that consultations will be by telephone at least until next year anyway
I'd like to say thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the practice who have worked so hard and shown us such care and kindness over the years.
It's been greatly appreciated.
