A DRIVER who admitted speeding at more than 100mph in his Bentley has had his request to suspend a driving ban until his appeal is heard quashed.

Andrew Singh (35) of Runnymeade Road, Darras Hall, appeared at North Tyneside Magistrates Court on Friday, August 7.

He had previously pleaded not guilty to one charge of speeding, but changed his plea at a later hearing.

Singh drove his Bentley Bentayga at 111mph on the A696 in Newcastle, with the charge relating to an incident in the early hours of Monday, September 16.

He was ordered to pay a £1,000 fine as well as a victim surcharge of £100 and costs of £85.

Singh was also banned from driving for 56 days - but launched an appeal against the decision, feeling the punishment was too harsh.

Also on Friday, August 7, Singh attempted to push his 56-day ban back in order for an appeal to be heard.

Steve Morrison, defending, said: "The defendant has launched an appeal, and within that there's a request to suspend the disqualification.

"The courts are in difficulty over listing, so might I suggest it's appropriate and humane to do.

"The defendant will have already served the ban, frustrating the purpose of any appeal.

"Any court hearing the appeal can vary this. Might I say the hammer can be suspended above him for now - start the ban later rather than now."

However, the district judge refused to suspend the ban.

Mr Singh's appeal will be heard at Newcastle Crown Court. A date for the hearing has yet to be decided.
