MORE than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling for an investigation into the abandoned Newcastle United takeover.
The petition, which calls for an independent investigation into the English Premier League takeover process, has been signed by 101,800 people at the time of writing.
It was set up by a Newcastle United fan on Change.org after a takeover of the club involving the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and billionaire businessmen the Reuben brothers collapsed.
The Premier League failed to make a decision on the takeover after four months of its owners and directors test.
The takeover has been dogged by reports of piracy in Saudi Arabia and concerns over human rights, particularly in relation to the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
A number of MPs, including Hexham's Guy Opperman, have also written to the Premier League to demand answers after the takeover collapsed. Mr Opperman said he had been contacted by hundreds of constituents over the issue.
The petition can be signed here.
