FACE masks that include a see-through window over the mouth have been praised for their revolutionary design.

The clear masks have been designed to help the deaf and hard of hearing understand lip-reading during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Something Special gift shop in Haltwhistle begun stocking the masks last month and has experienced a huge demand.

Owner Chez Bone said: "My friend Maxine Downey spent a lot of time to get the designs created and make sure they sit on your face correctly.

"It was trying to find the right material so that they would be washable and sustainable.

"I knew there would be a demand for them so I asked her to make some for the shop."

The Government enforced the wearing of face masks mandatory in shops, hospitals and on public transport to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Maxine added: "They are great for people that work with the hard of hearing and can lip read."
