TEMPERATURES throughout the Tyne Valley have hit 30°C as the UK basks in a heatwave.
The Met Office has issued its latest weather forecast, which reveals today is the third hottest day on record.
Hexham, Prudhoe, Allendale, Bellingham and Haltwhistle all recorded temperatures of 30°C.
Earlier today, the Met Office recorded a temperature of 37.8°C at Heathrow Airport, London.
Here's the forecast for the rest of the weekend:
Saturday:
Patchy rain over the Pennines dying out, giving way to sunny spells and a few light showers. Drier by the evening. Warm, but noticeably less so than Friday. Maximum temperature 22 °C.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
Sunny spells and scattered showers Sunday, occasionally heavy. Monday, another day of sunshine and showers. Rain on Tuesday, heaviest in west. Cooler temperatures than of late.
