WORK to demolish Hexham's former swimming pool is almost complete.

The building that housed the town's swimming pool between 1974 and 2008 is all but gone, with just the facade, which is to be retained, left standing.

The building will make way for a complex of 45 new flats, although the historic facade will be retained.

Bulldozers moved in on the site, which housed the town's swimming pool between 1974 and 2008 last month.

Construction on the new apartments is set to get under way later this summer, with a view to overall completion by August 2021.
