POLICE have provided an update on the lone sheep which was pictured roaming the streets of a Tyne Valley town.
An image of the animal near Hexham’s railway station was posted on social media on Sunday morning.
Naturally, there was concern for its welfare, as well as speculation as to which farm the sheep had escaped from.
Numerous sightings of the animal, in and around Hexham, were reported on the Hexham Matters page on Facebook.
On Tuesday, Northumbria Police confirmed that there was a positive conclusion to the story.
A police spokesman confirmed the force had been alerted to the sheep on Sunday. He said it had been returned to its home farm by a member of the public, and that the farmer responsible had been informed. The spokesman thanked the public for their assistance.
