ALMOST £400,000 is to be invested into the road network of one of the district's major towns.

As part of a Section 106 Agreement for Northumbria Police's former headquarters in Ponteland, £390,000 of funding has been secured by Northumberland County Council to invest in the town's roads.

Planning permission was granted to build 164 dwellings on the site.

The money will be dished out in three parts, with the first £170,000 already received by the council.

£170,000 will be due after the 65th home is occupied, and the remaining £50,000 will be received when the 130th home is filled.

According to a council report, it has been suggested that the money should be used to address capacity concerns at the junction between North Road and Thornhill Road.

Other proposals include a zebra crossing outside Darras Hall School and refurbishing the exisiting crossoing on Callerton Lane.
