A COW that came into difficulty by a waterfall has been airlifted to safety after five days.
RAF Spadeadam were able to rescue the cow that was stranded in a gorge at Crammel Linn waterfall, near Gisland, with help from the Joint Helicopter Command, RAF Benson and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
A helicopter freed the cow using a sling.
Animal charities had been unable to reach the animal, which is believed to have accessed the area through an open gate.
The access road and footpath to Crammel Linn were closed yesterday (Friday, July 10) during the rescue mission.
