A FORMER school finance manger who was jailed for stealing almost £190,000 from Keswick school has been ordered to pay nearly £76,000 in compensation.
Ghislain Sharron Smith, 52, spent the money on lavish holidays as she raided the schools reserves while in day-to-day control of their finances.
Smithson even continued to steal despite attending crucial budget meetings at which colleagues battled to cut costs and avoid job losses.
She pleaded guilty at an earlier court hearing and was jailed for 32 months in December.
At a court hearing held at Carlisle Crown Court today (Fri), it surfaced that her criminal conduct actually amounted to £208,094.61.
Prosecutor Peter Barr said: "We ask that £75,889.21 be payment as compensation to Keswick School, payable within three months."
Recorder Katherine Pierpoint formally ordered that the money be paid within three months or warned Smithson could face an addition 12-month prison sentence.
