A Wigton man has taken to designing Cumbrian inspired face coverings as well as cushions and t-shirts.

John Hutchinson, 52, is a photographer with a passion for Cumbria's picturesque countryside.

Now, he has started uploading his snaps on to face masks.

Mr Hutchinson explained: "It just started as a little hobby back in January, adding my photos and edited photo art I've made from pictures in Cumbria.

"I bring this all together on a site called Redbubble which is a big artists print demand company.

"I mainly try to promote the cushions. I've added a few masks with the Cumberland and Westmorland flags on, views of Langdale, Rydal Cave and a Herdwick.

"I have only had modest sales so far but have also started to do a few commissions with requests of an image or with the customers actual image as well."

Using public transport or jumping in a taxi now require passengers to use a face covering, and an increasing number of people are wearing them in an attempt to suppress Covid-19 transmission.

Mr Hutchinson though not born locally, has lived in Cumbria for many years and has worked on farms, small holdings, and the famous Woolpack Inn in Eskdale.

He continued: "I am also the author of Wainwrights In Verse as well a humble poetry book with a poem for each of the 214 Wainwright list of fells.

"I regularly came to the lakes on family camping holidays and I always thought it was home and felt a strong urge to live and work here.

"I initially came up here living and working in with the hospitality industry on various seasonal contracts since 2000. Upon moving to live at the famous Woolpack Inn in 2014 I also started to work outside on there smallholding and occasionally on local farms. This eventually led me to me landing my dream job working on a Nature Reserve as a Estate Worker/Ranger."

He completed the Wainwrights while in his early 30s and then went on to write Wainwrights in Verses.

He said he's always liked taking photos and editing them which is what led him to the Redbubble site.

"Social media, especially Facebook has been a great outlet," continued Mr Hutchinson.

"It's all a humble offering off work of a common fell walker but has sold over 1500 copies now."
