SUMMER is in full swing, and what better way to celebrate the sunshine than getting an ice cream.

We asked readers of the Hexham Courant online for the best places throughout the Tyne Valley that sell ice cream.

The Emporium Ice Cream Parlour in Corbridge was a popular choice for many readers.

Mark Coleman said: “For choice of ice cream, cakes, coffee, staff and just a great atmosphere Emporium Ice Cream stands out a mile. Oh and they have a selection of dog ice-cream too.”

Lisa Dawson praised the Emporium's “amazing selection of flavours and sundaes” and its “helpful and friendly staff”.

Jane Gillings added: “Emporium is my favourite place to visit for an ice cream. Excellent customer service from a small family run business.

“They always go over and above to make everyone feel welcome.”

Molly Moo's cafe in Hexham has become well-known for its dine-in experience.

Rochelle Hoppers said: “Very friendly and attentive staff/ owner! Making a real effort to be part of the community and using (fairly) local ice cream.

“Very competitive pricing (super useful as a parent!!). Wonderful for a light lunch and many delicious choices for ice cream desserts! A firm favourite!”

Lucy MacKenzie agreed. She said: “Best ice cream around! Amazing flavours - hard to choose a favourite!”

Wheelbirks Parlour in Stocksfield, which supplies ice cream to Cafe Ginevra in Prudhoe, was also recommended.

Amanda Bolderson said: “Wheelbirks for sure, wild sweet cherry is amazing!”

Helen Clubbs added: “Cafe Ginevra in Prudhoe. Sells Wheelbirks ice cream always very generous with portions!”

“Definitely Wheelbirks, although Molly Moo’s in Back Street runs it a close second,” said Mark Benjamin.

The parlour was also backed by Chris Liddle, Helena Anderson and Rebecca Taylor.

Often found on Tyne Green and at events throughout the district, Tyne Valley Ices was praised for its ice cream.

Cheryl Hutchinson said: “Definitely the best service and ice cream in the area. Great selection for people with special dietary needs as well so even if you can’t have dairy or gluten you can still have a treat.”

Lucy Weeks agreed. She said: “Tyne Valley Ices right outside my front door!”

Also located in Hexham, Debbie Graham recommended Listers Biscuit Box as "the best Mr Whippy ice Cream in the area".
