A MAN is due to stand trial after pleading not guilty to stealing cash from Hexham Abbey earlier this year.
Matthew Burgess, of Wydon Park, Hexham, is alleged to have stolen cash of an unknown value belonging to the Abbey on February 9.
The 29-year-old pleaded not guilty to two charges of theft when he appeared at court last Friday.
He will appear at South Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on September 15 for trial.
