THE NUMBER of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Northumberland increased by nearly 500 on Thursday after Public Health England announced it would include data from wider community testing.
This means that Public Health England's daily figures will now include pillar one – laboratory testing – and pillar two – wider community testing.
Figures released on Thursday show there have been 1,565 positive cases of Covid-19 in the county, an increase of 496 from 1,067.
No further deaths were confirmed by NHS England at Northumbria Healthcare Trust hospitals with the figure remaining at 201.
Earlier this week local authorities agreed to be given access to postcode-level data from the Department of Health about the number of people testing positive for coronavirus.
Access to the data will help local authorities identify which areas contain the highest number of confirmed cases.
