A THRIVING workplace is key to getting the economy restarted after three months of unprecedented challenges for local businesses.

That’s the view of Kaye Mullen, who heads a team of financial planners in Hexham.

Like many businesses, Sage Wealth Management closed the doors to its Hexham office, on Priestpopple, during the lockdown period.

Now it’s open again, with protective screens and other measures in place to welcome clients into a safe environment.

“Moving back into the office four or five weeks ago has had a really positive impact for us,” said Kaye. “People have seen us through the windows, and they’ve gone home and given us a call.

“Previously we were working from home, but even if you put up notices both physically and online, there can be an assumption that you’re closed.

“I have been really encouraged to see shops and other businesses opening in Hexham over the past week or so, it’s very reassuring for everybody.

“It really does look like the town is open for business again. We all have to support each other as we gradually work our way back to normal life.”

Kaye admitted that it’s been a worrying period for many people financially, and Sage Wealth Management has worked closely with their clients, from a distance, during lockdown.

“We started by phoning all of our clients over the age of 70 because they were the ones regarded as vulnerable, and were asked to self isolate.” she said.

“But we made sure we contacted all of our clients, to speak to them about their own circumstances, to respond to their concerns and give them updates regarding their investments.

“We wanted to give our clients peace of mind and to let them know we’re there for them.”

Now with lockdown restrictions gradually being eased, Kaye said clients could now choose between telephone appointments and face-to-face meetings.

“We’ve worked hard to create a safe environment, and people can come to see us if they want to,” she said. “If not, we are still very much there at the end of the phone.”

Kaye is based at the Hexham office with colleagues Jen Thompson and Katy O’Donnell. Sage Wealth Management also has offices in Chester Le Street, Alnwick and Darlington.
