RESIDENTS at a care home in the district have performed a song from a classical musical as part of a singing competition.

Elm Bank Care Home, in Hexham, has entered Gene Kelly's Singing in the Rain, from the 1952 musical of the same name, into the Marvellous Monthly competition, run by Marton Care Homes.

The residents, who also produced scenery to recreate the iconic backdrop for the song, are relying on public votes to win the competition, which has been entered by other care homes in the group.

To vote, people must follow the link below, hold the 'like' button and select the heart symbol to log their vote while watching the video.

Only hearts will be recognised as votes, and they must be on Marton's page to be counted.

Last month, the residents made kites, and have now turned their attention to singing for the latest competition.

"We settled on this song after a survey of the residents," said Claire Richardson, deputy manager at Elm Bank.

"The competitions have been very popular so far, and the residents and staff have really enjoyed getting involved."
