A Section 14 order is in place today in Newcastle City Centre, Northumbria Police confirm.
The order forbids public assemblies at Grey's Monument, in the city centre, which was the site of protests last weekend between Black Lives Matters activists and a group labelling themselves the 'Defenders of Newcastle'.
Though initially peaceful, the protests ended in violence with a number of arrests made by Northumbria Police over the course of the week.
Policing has since been stepped in the city as a protest is set to take place at Times Square later today.
