A CHINESE takeaway which has served its community for half a century has been put up for auction.

The Silver Palace, which has a history dating back to the 1960s, has appeared on Auction House North East for a guide price of between £200,000 and £250,000.

The Market Place business, which closed at the start of coronavirus lockdown, is due to be auctioned at 7pm on July 28.

The listing on Auction House North East stated the property operated as a Chinese takeaway until recently.

It read: “This mixed use property situated across three floors is in a prominent location on Hexham Market Street and until recently operated as a Chinese take-away and family home.

“To the ground floor are two large rooms representing the shop front and back as well as a large kitchen with staff WC. The first and second floors are residential with a lounge, two bathrooms and six bedrooms.

“There is potential to convert the upper floors in to two separate dwellings, subject to the necessary planning consents.”

It follows the news that Hexham's other Chinese takeaway and restaurant ,The Golden Dragon, is also set to close.

Silver Palace was contacted for comment.
