THE A69 is set be closed overnight as work on the Bridge End roundabout in Hexham move to the next phase.

The westbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am from Monday, June 29 Thursday, July 9 excluding the weekend.

The eastbound carriageway between Acomb and Stagshaw will be closed at the same time on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.

The road is being closed to switch traffic between lanes at Hermitage Wall, which is necessary for phase two of the works.

Surfacing works will also be carried out between Stagshaw and Acomb, which will require the closure of the road between Corchester Bridge and Milkwell Lane between 7pm and 5am from Monday, June 22 to Thursday, June 25.

The work is part of Highways England’s £30m project to improve the A69 at Hexham and Corbridge, with the aim of creating uninterrupted dual carriageway from Newcastle to Hexham.

A spokesman for Highways England said: "We have been progressing well on the improvements at A69 Bridge End roundabout whilst ensuring we adhere to Government advice about social distancing and safe working practices.

"We are now approaching phase 2, where we will start the process of switching traffic between lanes."
