AN HISTORIC annual event has been cancelled due to social distancing worries amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The South Tyne Traction Engine Society’s steam and vintage rally, held at Tynedale Park in Corbridge, was due to take place in May but was postponed until later in the year by organisers.

However the decision was then made to cancel the event until next year.

The annual event sees everything from vintage cars to motorcycles and commercial vehicles to farm machinery, tractors, vintage caravans and full-size steam engines descend upon Tynedale for two days a year.

The steam rally has become one of the district’s largest draws and regularly welcomes thousands of visitors who seize the opportunity to admire at close hand the products of engineering prowess.

Organisers of the annual event said next year’s event will take place on Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13 2021.
