RESIDENTS in Prudhoe can now book a virtual surgery with their local county councillor.

The town’s two county councillors, Gordon Stewart and Ken Stow, are looking to use technology to keep in touch with residents during the coronavirus pandemic.

The councillors can be contacted via phone or email to arrange a time to meet on Google Meet or another video-chat service.

Coun. Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South, said: “We have had to change the way in which we keep in contact with our residents.

“Many people are now using technology to communicate. We receive numerous emails and telephone calls everyday but this option will offer something extra.

“Many residents are self isolating and and do not see anyone for long periods of time.

“They can contact us to discuss any issue or even just to chat and have a catch up.

“I am concerned about the mental health of many residents during this crisis and hope this assist them to reach out and seek help if needed.

“Prudhoe has a very long history but is now also a modern forward thinking town.

“We believe that councillors should be visible and contactable for residents and others who would like to discuss anything with them.”
