THE property market across the district is gradually getting back on its feet after a complete shutdown.

Estate agent Pattinson’s has reopened the doors of it’s Hexham office, albeit on a limited basis for the time being.

After working from home during the lockdown period thus far, branch manager and senior evaluator Marc Hydleman has returned to his desk at the office, on Priestpopple.

“With lockdown starting to ease, people have begun looking at houses again,” he said.

“People have been wanting to move, and it’s our job to help them.

“Opening the office is a big step forward, but of course we are being very careful and are acting strictly in accordance with government guidelines to keep everyone as safe as possible.”

Marc is currently the only member of staff in the office, and only two members of the public are allowed to join him inside at the same time.

“The door is locked at all times,” he said. “People can come along without an appointment, but they have to knock on the door first, and we’ll accommodate them as soon as possible.”

Marc said it was a busy period for Pattinson’s.

He added: “It remains to be seen whether the current level of activity will continue, or settle down. One thing I have noticed is that people are coming out of the towns and cities, and want to move into rural areas.”
