A FURTHER three people have died in the region's hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus.

Latest figures published on Monday afternoon confirmed a total of 1,627 Covid-19 patients had died in the North-East and North Yorkshire.

The rise in deaths is one of the lowest day-on-day increases that our region has seen since the outbreak began. 

It comes as a further 108 people died in hospitals across England.

A spokesperson for NHS England said: "A further 108 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 26,722.

"Patients were aged between 29 and 99 years old.  16 of the 108 patients (aged between 48 and 94) had no known underlying health condition. Their families have been informed."

Gateshead Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 129 no change

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – 191 no change

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust – 120 no change

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 231 no change

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust – 320 was 318 

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust -113 no change

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 210 no change

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust- 64 no change

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) –  7 no change 

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) – 7 no change

Total: 1,627 was 1,624 the day before
