The allure of azure blue waters draws people to coastlines and beauty spots throughout the world for fun and relaxation.

But the blue lagoon near Fourstones is a very different matter.

It’s a disused quarry full of water, which means there are hidden dangers.

It’s on private land and is not open to the public. The ‘danger keep out’ sign at the entrance spells it out.

And when local residents are concerned about the spread of coronavirus in their midst, the last thing they need is visitors coming from far afield and to use the quarry as a playground.

Perhaps the Government needs to start remaking those public information films that used to be so prevalent in the 1970s.

There was one that was made for places like the blue lagoon, voiced by a menacing sounding Donald Pleasence.

Called the Lonely Water, it warned about the dangers lurking beneath the waters such as those at Fourstones, “ready to trap the unwary, the show-off, the fool…”
