The chief executive of north Cumbria's NHS Trust has thanked the county for its "incredible" support as the weekly clap for carers event is drawn to a close.

Lyn Simpson, chief executive of the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust has said she and her colleagues have been "overwhelmed" at the level of support demonstrated each Thursday evening, as the weekly clap for carers event saw communities take to the streets across Cumbria to show appreciation for all the NHS and key workers going above and beyond to save lives and care for all those affected by coronavirus.

She said last night: “As we clap our final clap for carers tonight we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the support over the last ten weeks which has been overwhelming.

"There has been singing and dancing but most importantly there’s been community spirit.

"Thank you Cumbria for your incredible support please continue that support by washing your hands and keeping social distance."
