CONFIRMED cases of coronavirus in Northumberland have slowed over the past week as the county prepares a phased return out of strict lockdown measures.

There have been 932 lab-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Northumberland, according to Public Health England.

The latest figures show there were 13 further confirmed cases between Wednesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 27.

NHS England has recorded 186 deaths of patients at Northumbria Healthcare hospitals who had contracted the virus.

Visitors continue to travel to popular tourist spots throughout the district after authorities reopened car parks in line with updated Government guidance.

Primary schools throughout Tynedale are due to reopen for reception, Year 1 and Year 6 pupils from June 1 after more than two months of home schooling.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that non-essential stores, including clothes stores, would be able to reopen from June 15, as long as they adhere to social distancing rules.

Some cafes, restaurants and pubs throughout the district have continued trading during the lockdown with at-the-door takeaway and delivery services in place.
