A PENSIONER has expressed his concerns about a group of men causing disruption in his backstreet.

The gentleman, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that he is having problems with a ‘group of young men’, who have been dismantling vehicles in the backstreets of Smeaton Street.

The man said: “There has been four in total over recent weeks and last weekend, May 16, a caravan was dismantled with the top being taken off and smashed up in one backstreet and the chassis left in the other.

“As of today we have two scrap cars and a caravan chassis in the Smeaton Street backstreets.”

The backstreets are noticeably littered, with household junk packed into the scrap cars.

In a nearby front street, another scrap car was parked up and filled with rubbish.

The man approached the Environmental Health Department, and says he was told that this department only dealt with the noise pollution resulting from such activities.

He said: “As I am a pensioner on lockdown, I believe I should not have to put up with this.”

The area has also seen trouble with cars that are said to be speeding along the streets - raising concerns over noise levels and in most importantly, the safety of any children in the vicinity.

Barrow Borough Councillor Trevor Biggins, said: “I am aware of it and it has been going on for a while.

“He is not the only one who has raised complaints.

“I will look into this and get in touch.

“It is not a straight-forward process.”
